Is there an accelerated course?

Yes. Individuals from British Columbia who are re-qualifying their licence or individuals transferring from within the United States are exempt from Components Two and Four of the Commercial Applied Practice Course, but completion of online Components One and Three is required.
Individuals who have to re-qualify for a representative’s licence by rewriting the trading services licensing examination, and who have not completed the Commercial Applied Practice Course in the past two years are required by RECBC to take the accelerated course. Details are set out on RECBC’s website.

What if I choose to focus on residential sales in Component Three?

A student registered in the Commercial Applied Practice Course who chooses to focus on residential sales in Component Three or chooses to no longer pursue commercial sales must:

  1. Inform BCREA that the area of focus for trading services is now primarily residential and no longer commercial.
  2. Register for and complete Component Two of the Residential Applied Practice Course. This means retaking Component Two and paying a rescheduling fee.
  3. Register and complete Components Three and Four of the Residential Applied Practice Course within six months of licence issuance. Note that all Component Three practical field assignments and Component Four must be completed within six months of licence issuance. You won’t be required to surrender your licence, but licence extensions won’t be granted.
  4. Pay a rescheduling fee (30% of the overall course fee) before starting Components Two, Three and Four.
The reverse situation would also apply for any student who initially registered in the Residential Applied Practice Course and changed areas of focus from residential to commercial trading services.

What if I miss part of the course?

Absence from the course and subsequent delay in completing the course will only be approved for serious illness or compassionate reasons. Absence will not be approved for holidays, business appointments or other personal reasons. Any requests for an absence must be submitted in writing and emailed to sallen@bcrea.bc.ca in advance, with documentation (e.g., doctor’s certificate) in support of the request.

Due to the blended nature of the course delivery, failure to participate in the online components and/or attend the in-class components will result in a make-up fee. Learners who fail to successfully complete Component One will not be eligible for licensing. Unsuccessful completion of Components Two, Three and Four could result in a learner having to surrender their licence if they were not able to reschedule or complete the course components within the temporary licence period. Learners who are required to make up a component of the course will be required to pay the make-up fee. The make-up fee for any missed component is $262.50 (30 per cent of the course fee plus GST).

Learners required to make up Component Two must do so within one year of completing Component One. Components One and Two must be completed consecutively and within one year of each other. Failure to complete Components One and Two within one year will result in a learner having to redo both components in their entirety. This could also result in the learner having to retake the Real Estate Trading Services Licensing Course and/or examination.
