Oana Hyatt is a litigator experienced in defending professional negligence actions. In 2016, she joined the Real Estate Errors and Omissions Insurance Corporation as a staff lawyer.

Chris Johnston is a litigator with 17 years of experience dealing with property and related disputes. He has been working as a staff lawyer at the Real Estate Errors and Omissions Insurance Corporation since 2011 and, in his role, represents REALTORS® accused of professional negligence. He has also written chapters for BCREA’s Legal Update course and regularly edits a Chapter of the BC Real Estate Practice Manual, a publication for lawyers on real estate litigation matters.

Mike Mangan is an experienced trial lawyer, author and teacher and also authored the popular book The Condominium Manual: A Comprehensive Guide to the Strata Property Act.

Brian Taylor is an associate counsel at Norton Rose practicing in the areas of administrative, local government and real estate law. He drafted the standard forms currently used by the real estate profession.

Previous Authors

Jennifer A. Clee has worked in private practice in Vancouver, specializing in professional negligence defence actions. As a staff lawyer at the Real Estate Errors and Omissions Insurance Corporation from 1991 to 2016, she defended real estate professionals in hundreds of real estate actions. Jennifer was a Legally Speaking contributor from 2007 to 2016.

Gerry Neely

Gerry Neely was the sole author of Legally Speaking for 26 years, from the first issue in 1981, until his last column (403) in 2007. Through his years of commitment and dedication to the organization, he became a BCREA Honorary Life Member in 1999. Gerry practiced law in Victoria for 47 years as a solicitor with Pearlman & Lindholm. He retired in 2005.

Edward L. Wilson, a partner with Lawson Lundell, practices real estate law and acts for developers and investors in industrial, commercial and residential projects. He assisted in the drafting of provincial legislation, including the Real Estate Services Act and the Strata Property Act. He was a Legally Speaking contributor from 2007 to 2011.
